Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to common questions about underwater hull cleaning, mooring inspections, running gear and zinc service, dock inspections, underwater video inspections, and commercial diving across NYC and North Jersey.

General

What areas do you serve?
We serve Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Bronx, Staten Island, and New Jersey. If you’re just outside these areas, reach out - we’ll confirm availability based on scope and location.

Who do you work with?
We support private vessel owners, marinas, yacht clubs, waterfront property owners, property managers, and commercial waterfront operators.

Are you insured?
Yes. We maintain appropriate insurance for professional marine operations. If your marina or property requires a COI, we can provide it upon request.

Do you offer emergency service?
We offer time-sensitive response when feasible for issues like submerged debris, fouled running gear, or post-storm assessment. Availability depends on conditions, location, and scope - contact us with details and we’ll advise the safest next step.

Scheduling and Process

How do I request service?
Use the Request Service button or call directly. The fastest way to quote and schedule is to share: vessel type, location, requested service, and preferred time window.

What information do you need before scheduling?
Typically: marina/location, slip or mooring details, vessel size/type, and the service requested. For moorings or dock inspections, we may ask for hardware details or any prior documentation.

Do you work around tide and current?
Yes. NYC harbor conditions matter. Timing can impact visibility, safety, and efficiency. We schedule with conditions in mind whenever possible.

Do I need to be present during service?
Not always. Many clients authorize service with access instructions. For certain inspections or documentation requests, being available by phone is helpful.

Underwater Hull Cleaning

How often should hull cleaning be done in NYC harbor waters?
It varies by location and season, but many vessels benefit from cleaning every 4-8 weeks during peak growth months. We can recommend a cadence based on your vessel and marina conditions.

Will hull cleaning damage my bottom paint?
We aim to clean effectively while respecting coatings. Paint condition, growth level, and coating type all matter. If coatings appear compromised, we’ll document and recommend next steps.

Can you clean boats on lifts or on trailers?
Our core service is in-water cleaning and inspection. If you need out-of-water work, we can advise on the best approach and coordinate where possible.

Mooring Inspection and Maintenance

What’s included in a mooring inspection?
Underwater assessment of chain condition, shackles, swivels, connection points, and ground tackle - plus photo documentation and practical recommendations.

How often should a mooring be inspected?
Typically annually, and also after major storm events or if there are signs of unusual movement, chafe, or shifting. Frequency depends on usage and local conditions.

Do you replace mooring hardware?
We can perform minor adjustments when appropriate. For replacement needs, we’ll document the issue clearly and recommend the correct fix based on what’s observed.

Propeller, Running Gear and Zinc Service

What is “running gear?”
Running gear generally refers to underwater propulsion components like propellers, shafts, struts, and related hardware.

How do I know if my zincs need to be replaced?
Zincs are sacrificial and wear down over time. If anodes show significant depletion, replacement is recommended. We inspect zinc condition during underwater service and advise accordingly.

Can you remove fishing line or debris from props?
Yes - when conditions allow and it can be done safely. This is a common reason clients request commercial diving support.

Dock and Waterfront Structure Inspections

What do you inspect on docks and waterfront structures?
We inspect submerged pilings, hardware connections, brackets, and visible structural elements below the waterline - then provide photo documentation and a summary of observed conditions.

Is this an engineering report?
No. Our inspections are visual and operational in nature - designed to document condition and identify visible concerns. If engineering evaluation is needed, we can help you understand what to ask for next.

When should docks be inspected?
Annually is common for active waterfront sites, and also after major storms, before seasonal reopening, or during property transfers and due diligence.

Underwater Video Inspections

What do you deliver after a video inspection?
High-resolution underwater video and supporting photos of requested areas, plus clear notes on what was observed and recommended next steps when applicable.

When is underwater video inspection useful?
Common use cases include pre-purchase evaluation, insurance documentation, storm assessment, marina infrastructure review, and maintenance planning.

Pricing and Payment

How is pricing determined?
Pricing depends on service type, vessel size, scope, access, and conditions. We quote based on the job - not guesswork.

Do you provide estimates in advance?
Yes. Share your details and we’ll provide a clear estimate. If conditions change the scope materially once we’re on-site, we’ll communicate before proceeding.

What payment methods do you accept?
Typically card, ACH, or other standard electronic payment methods. If you have special requirements (marina billing, invoicing, purchase orders), let us know.

Safety and Standards

What safety standards do you follow?
We operate with a safety-first mindset appropriate for high-traffic harbor environments. That includes structured planning, clear communication, and conservative decision-making when conditions are unsafe.

What happens if conditions are unsafe on the scheduled day?
If conditions are unsafe due to current, visibility, traffic, or weather, we will reschedule. Safety and quality come first.
